Information for Veterans, Service Members and Families
As our brave military personnel return from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and other combat theaters, it is important to remember that "no one comes back unchanged." Many individuals and family members may experience a variety of adjustment reactions to the stress of deployment or combat. These adjustment reactions may comprise depression, generalized anxiety, irritability, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, feelings of detachment, and increased alcohol and other drug use. This page provides links to behavioral health care information for those who have served and continue to serve, as well as their families, providers, community members, agency partners and others who want to support the health and wellness of service members.
2010 Cultural Competence Needs Assessment Focuses on Veterans and
Family Members
The "Learning
Your Needs" Veterans Assessment Project Report provides valuable insights
about attitudes, motivations, social and socio-economic factors that encourage
or deter veterans and/or their family members from accessing services within
the behavioral healthcare system in Ohio. Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence (MACC) compiled the report in partnership with Ohio Department of Veteran Services, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and other organizations. The report serves as a supplement to the 2006 and 2008 versions of the MACC “Learning Your Needs: Cultural Competence Needs Assessment.” View the press release.
