Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH) Program
Program Description
The Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH) Program provides funding for graduate students to complete community service projects in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). The ODMH section of Integrated Clinical Care in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Health has been awarded SEARCH program funds for the purpose of increasing access to behavioral health services in underserved areas in Ohio. This program will provide funding to residents and trainees who seek practicum placements in behavioral healthcare agencies that are located in Health Professional Shortage Areas.
Benefits
- Funding in the amount of $1500.00 per rotation for 200 hours of work at a behavioral healthcare agency or Federally Qualified Health Center. Hours can be integrated within the student's internship or practicum at the agency.
Requirements
- Practicum placement or residency must occur at agency located in Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA)
- Rotations may count as part of a course requirement for academic credit or in addition to program requirements
- Students must have completed one year of their training and be in good academic standing
- As part of the practicum placement, student completes a community service project consistent with the needs of the community or utilize a topic/objective developed by Healthy People 2020
- Program duration is approximately ten to twelve weeks
- Preceptor designated to mentor and teach the SEARCH participant (Preceptor must be a mental health professional working at the participating placement agency)
- Participant completes pre-rotation and post-rotation questionnaire and a 2-3 page written summary of the community project
