Consumer Benefits
Cash and medical assistance benefits provide essential support for many people with serious mental illness. The Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), and Medicaid programs function under a complex set of regulations. The sometimes fragmented program administration infrastructure often is difficult for people in need to navigate. ODMH provides leadership and supports strategies to improve access to these benefits for people with serious mental illness. It is important for consumers, provider organizations, and other entities that provide support to persons with serious mental illness to understand and learn more about the following initiatives:
- Expedited SSI and Medicaid-Program to Improve Disability Determination Processing Time for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness
- Medicaid Buy-In Program for Workers with Disabilities (MBIWD)-Program to Increase Employment and Retain Medicaid Benefits for People with Serious Mental Illness
- Reinstatement of Medicaid for Public Institution Recipients-Program to Improve Service Access for Medicaid Recipients Released from Institutions
