2008 Ohio Family Health Survey: Special Population Report Available
As part of the State Transformation Incentive Grant activity, the Ohio Department of Mental Health provided funding to the Health Policy Institute of Ohio and the OSU College of Medicine Government Resource Center for a special population data collection in the 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey. Results of that data collection were analyzed in late 2009 and published findings are now available in a chart book. The Special Population Report looks at demographic information, insurance coverage, health conditions, risk behaviors, healthcare access issues, and unmet needs for individuals with Serious Psychological Distress.

Health care reform focus of State of Ohio Web site – sign up for news alerts
In March, President Obama signed The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA; P.L. 111-148) (commonly referred to as Federal Health Care Reform) and The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152), which made numerous changes to PPACA. The reforms in these laws expand coverage to millions of Americans and require changes to health insurance products and the regulations that govern them. A web site has been developed for Ohioans to visit and sign up for alerts on implementation issues. This site includes a section link to news specific to Behavioral Health. Coverage of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction treatment services will be a part of the basic benefit package that insurers will be required to offer. Other initiatives will improve coordination between primary care and behavioral health providers.
